Harper’s bedroom glowed softly in the dark, lit by the square light of the tablet. Outside, the night was quiet. Inside, Harper’s Minecraft world was wide awake.
Tap. Swipe. Click. Tiny blocks stacked into a cozy little house on the screen. A square sun drifted down. Pixel stars blinked on, one by one.
Harper yawned. “Just one more block,” Harper whispered. The room felt extra still, like it was listening. Then—whoosh—colors on the screen shimmered. The pixel grass waved. The tablet light grew brighter, softer, almost like a night-light made of tiny cubes.
Harper blinked, sleepy but calm, as the Minecraft world seemed to lean closer… and closer…
