“Hello?” Harper called toward the glowing doorway. The word slipped out like a bubble.
For a second, nothing. Just the quiet crackle of the tiny campfire inside the pixel house. Then—the sound bounced back. “Hello…” But softer. Blocky. Like the house itself was answering.
Square lantern light flickered, brighter for a moment. The cube pillow gave a tiny hop on the bed. Boop. A trail of pixel sparkles floated from the doorway and drifted toward Harper’s nose, tickling like warm snow.
The cube breeze puffed again, slow and calm. Whoosh. Harper’s fingers curled on the tablet’s edge. Heart thumping, but not scared. Just… pulled.
“Um,” Harper said, voice small but steady. “Is it okay if I come in?”
