Keep it on your phone โThis World Cup is the first ever shared by three countries at once. The United States, Canada, and Mexico are hosting together, spreading the matches across a continent of huge cities and famous stadiums. Playing at home brings pressure, because the whole nation is watching, but it also brings a wall of friendly noise behind every team.
The United States used that energy well. After beating Paraguay by four goals to one in their opening game, they faced Australia and won by two goals to nil. That second win was enough to carry them through to the knockout rounds and to top their group, a strong and early result for the host nation.
Mexico had already booked its place with a win over South Korea, and the early days belonged to the home teams. Three countries, three sets of fans, three flags waving in three nations at the same time. The tournament is still young, but for now the hosts are marching on, and the home crowds are dreaming of how far this summer might go.
