The Old Windmills

High on the flat top of the hills above the town, Polly found a long row of round stone towers standing against the sky.

They were old windmills. Today they have no roofs and no sails any more. They are just open towers with small dark windows, quiet in the wind.

Long ago, the strong wind up here turned their great sails day after day, and the mills ground wheat into flour for the whole town below.

Polly looked closely at the walls. It was the same golden stone she had seen in the cave by the sea. She tilted her head and began to wonder.
