The Narrow Way

In the morning, Polly hopped into the canyon. Inside, the air was cool and blue with shadow, although outside the desert was already burning hot.

People call this canyon the Siq. In some places it is only three metres wide, so narrow that when Polly stretched out her wings, she could almost touch both walls at the same time.

She looked up. Far above her head, the sky had become nothing more than a thin blue ribbon, squeezed between the dark red walls.

Then she noticed something strange. A small channel was carved into the rock wall, running along the canyon like a ribbon made of stone. Long ago, it had carried water. Polly decided to follow it and see where it went.
