Sie sinkt zum Meer, leuchtet rot und golden, und steigt dann wieder hoch. Um Mitternacht war das Land immer noch hell und golden, und Pollys Brille glänzte. Polly beschloss, nicht zu schlafen.
Warum? Diese Insel ist sehr nah am Dach der Welt. Im Sommer geht die Sonne fast nicht unter. Im Winter ist es umgekehrt. Die Sonne versteckt sich fast, und die Tage sind kurz und grau.
Polly flog ein letztes Mal sehr hoch. Sie sah die ganze Woche auf einmal. Das Tal, die Geysire, die neue Lava, den weißen Gletscher und die Klippen. Feuer unten und Eis oben.
Dann flog Polly hinaus über das Meer. Hinter ihr dampfte und fror Island weiter, und es leuchtete noch in der Sonne. Es wurde immer noch geboren.
