The Ice That Hides Fire

Keep it on your phone βPolly flew east until the land turned white. In front of her was the biggest glacier in Europe. From above it looked like a frozen sea. Polly landed on it. The cold came up through her feet. Her red head and blue-teal wings looked very bright on the white ice.
She found a cave under the ice. The walls glowed deep blue. This ice is very old snow. The snow was pressed hard until the air was gone. Ice with no air looks blue.
Then Polly learned a strange thing. Volcanoes sit under the glacier. Sometimes one erupts and melts the ice. Then a big flood runs across the land. Here, fire and ice live together.
At the edge was a quiet lake. Blue icebergs floated to the sea. Polly sat on one and floated slowly.
