The Clock's New Guardian

Polly and Václav successfully prevented a temporal catastrophe by properly recalibrating Prague's astronomical clock during a rare celestial alignment, discovering it was designed as a guardian of the city's magical heritage. In the aftermath, Polly agrees to stay in Prague temporarily to help Václav document and protect the clock's secrets for future generations.

The morning sun shone across the Old Town Square. Polly sat on the astronomical clock, watching the crowds below. Tourists had returned with their cameras, but they didn't know about the strange events from last night.

"She's running perfectly," Václav said as he came out of the tower. His hands had stopped shaking, and he looked confident again. The woman in black had disappeared at dawn, leaving only a business card that Václav threw away.

"Some offers aren't worth anything," he had told Polly.

Now in the morning light, Polly noticed something different about the clock. The golden glow from last night was still there, hidden in the details. Each gear caught the light strangely, and each number seemed to pulse with old memories.

"Your grandfather would be proud," she said. "You didn't just fix the clock - you understood what it protects."

Václav nodded thoughtfully. "All those years, I thought I was just fixing a machine. But I was actually guarding something special." He smiled. "I think Prague itself tested us last night. Those changing streets seemed designed to delay us."

"To make sure we really wanted to save it," Polly agreed.

School children gathered below while their teacher explained the clock's functions. One small boy pointed at Polly excitedly, so she did a little loop in the air that made them all laugh.

"Will you stay?" Václav asked suddenly. "The clock needs a guardian who understands its true nature."

Polly thought about this. She always moved on to new adventures, but Prague was special. It was a city where past and present danced together, where secrets hid everywhere.

"For a while," she said finally. "Someone should help you write down what we learned."

Václav smiled widely. "I know a good café where we can work. They serve excellent seeds for unusual guests like you."

As they walked into the square, Polly looked back at the Orloj. Its hands moved steadily forward, marking time while carrying centuries of history. The clock had taught her that the greatest adventures weren't always about finding new secrets, but about protecting the mysteries that made the world magical.

Now do it every day.
