كانت غالينا قد غادرت في الليل. بافيل كان لا يزال نائمًا. جاء راكبان جديدان. جندي شاب ورجل أكبر سنًا يحمل صندوق أدوات صيد السمك.
يكاترينبورغ هي أكبر مدينة في جبال الأورال. جبال الأورال تفصل بين أوروبا وآسيا. هي ليست مرتفعة، لكنها قديمة جدًا. عمرها 500 مليون سنة. إنها من أقدم الجبال على وجه الأرض.
القطار العابر لسيبيريا يعبر الأورال هنا. هناك علامة صغيرة بجانب السكة. جانب منها مكتوب عليه "أوروبا" والجانب الآخر مكتوب عليه "آسيا".
الراكب الجديد الذي يحمل صندوق أدوات الصيد فتحه. وضع طعوم الصيد على الطاولة. رتبها حسب اللون.
"أين تصطاد؟" سألت بولي.
"بحيرة بايكال،" قال. "في غضون ثلاثة أيام. أومول. سمك بايكال. لن تجده في أي مكان آخر في العالم."
لاحقًا، مر القطار بالعلامة في فسحة صغيرة. "أوروبا" على جانب و"آسيا" على الجانب الآخر. لوح ثلاثة سياح للقطار. بافيل لوح لهم من الداخل.
لقد عبر القطار قارة كما تعبر شارعًا صغيرًا.
